Our Projects

Working with our community

Our community projects are fundamental for our objective of helping others facilitate positive change in their lives and the lives of others. Prime’s mantra, “help us, help you, help others” revolves around the idea of shared responsibility and growth where everyone contributes to the betterment of both individuals and the community.

The 10% model we use with our professional classes helps fund our ongoing community projects Medellin. Every class taken with our Prime team provides passive funding for our projects that are offered to both our students and the wider community.

“A continuous cycle of shared learning”

Our community English classes are designed to encourage cultural immersion and the utilisation of English in the ever-growing cultural expansion of Medellin city. The aim is to provide people with the skill of communicating in English to later incorporate this learning into their lives and create positive and sustainable changes.

We provide tools and the environment for individuals to facilitate changes in their lives with the hope that they are able to replicate the process with others – a continued cycle of shared learning.

Situated at the top of the picturesque electric escalators of the comuna 13, this wonderful project was started in August 2015 by Milena Palavilla. It has seen great success in the development of students English over this time and has provided a solid base for various other related community projects.

What was initially just English classes has grown into various events and activities in this fascinating area of the city such as our community projects, language exchanges and comuna tours.

This project started in August, 2016 and is located at the Santo Domingo metro cable that starts from Acevedo station and provides spectacular views of Medellin. Based around Santo Domingo and Comuna 1, this project was started by Philippa Coleman of the University of Queensland.

These classes provided a project based learning opportunity where young people give tours of their local area to improve and practice their English. Prime has added two weekly English classes on top of the tours to facilitate further language learning.

A dedicated group of our students in the Comuna 13 have spent their time and resources on designing a tour of their home community. Encouraged and guided by teachers from Prime, the tour has been completely orchestrated by the students who – wanting to offer tourists the chance to really get to know their barrio – have intensely researched the violent history of the area, and have successfully constructed a free walking tour full of fascinating snippets of history and personal anecdotes.

The tour is completely free to participate in and is an innovative way that our students are getting to practise their English.
